Two unlikely lovers, Devora and Lazarus, have been banished from a region near Memphis, Egypt, for mixing races and cultures. After their request to hypnotize ancient clans backfires when tribal priests respond with a magical rite, they embark on a pursuit to free Lazarus from the form of a futuristic dog that soon leads them into the midst of supernatural warfare. Will she and Lazarus ever be reunited?
“Brother Lazarus. Your hour has brought more than a love offering.
Your lady carries special twins within her womb. They reflect the
revelation of Those Who Must Be Kepts' very own blue & black twins.
From Devora’s womb, they have discovered the truth about the law of
supply and demand. This very night, I heard an eagle talk. It came
within reach right here in the atrium. I was bathing when the words from
its beak spoke. We are to prepare for the coming of things that were
bought with a price.”
He handed the glove to Lazarus.
“The eagle took the other one, and then with high speed ascended into
the sky, down a long brown road before him.”
Darius replied, “My brother, it is true Devora is pregnant. How could
you have known? When the tribes find out, they will say an omen shall
harm Those Who Must Be Kept. You must grant Devora her wish. Use your
magic to hypnotize them. For our sake, lure them to sleep and make them
forget the old ways of those who have passed on. We desire to be
together in peace without reproach and our twins welcomed! If not, we
shall end it, right here in front of the great Statue of Alia. Devora
will tell the statue, drink her milk for Memphis, but instead offer
teardrops beneath its feet. We will not even offer a carnival song. I
promise you we shall always think twice for the eagle’s assurance of
our double blessing within Devora’s womb.”
“Beloved brother Lazarus, one must not become a victim of blackness,
it is the fall of man, and magic can only go so far. My practice of it
might propel me to fall off my stool. We shall prepare for the coming of
the twins, and mysteries bought with a price. What these mysteries are
and what price this is, I will come to learn in another land.”
