Book Description

A boy in Southern Africa learns how the little ways that he helps his family and friends can add up to big rewards and that no matter how small you are, you can accomplish big things. In doing so, Jabulani introduces his culture from the Ndebele tribe of the Republic of South Africa to other children through this story of a week in his life.

Sample Chapter

Seven year old Jabulani peeks out of the window of his house. It is made of sunbaked mud bricks. It’s a beautiful sunny day. His house has a bright green door, and a roof that is thatched with long elephant grass.

Jabulani is from the Ndebele people of the Republic of South Africa, who paint the walls of their houses with vibrantly colored patterns. Each bright design has a different meaning, such as joy or love, and sometimes even sadness. It is a way the family can communicate important events to the village.
