People are dying in the small rural town of Plumwood, Oregon. Doctor Richard Anderson an investigator for the CDC in Atlanta, Georgia is sent to investigate. Dr. Anderson's investigation leads him on an adventure which uncovers the the real killer, which is something more terrifying than anyone could ever imagine.
October 13, 1991
Dr. Richard Anderson glanced out the window of the airplane as it made its evening approach to the Atlanta International Airport. The sea of twinkling neon lights swimming in the distance was a welcome sight. He had just spent three weeks in Philadelphia tracking down the cause of a deadly E. coli outbreak where three young people died.
Richard enjoyed his work at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), but he didn’t enjoy seeing people die, especially young people. In the six years he had worked for the CDC, he’d traveled to several states to track down the causes of deadly diseases. He wondered where he would be traveling to next and what disease he’d be asked to stop. Would it be E. coli again, Legionnaire’s, AIDS, mad cow, or something unknown.
After the plane landed and Richard picked up his suitcases, he got his car and drove to his apartment. On the way, he tried to call his girlfriend, Susan, on his cellular phone, but when she didn’t answer, he decided to wait and surprise her the next day. He was extremely tired and went to bed as soon as he got in his apartment.
The next morning, he awoke feeling refreshed and, after a quick breakfast, drove to the CDC headquarters. He smiled as he thought about a two-week vacation and being with Susan the entire time. It had been a long time since he’d been on a vacation and he was ready. As he drove into the CDC parking lot, he looked up at the dark rain clouds hanging over the Atlanta area and hoped they weren’t a forewarning of bad things to come.
